The Girl of the Golden West

$8.00

The original version of The Girl of the Golden West was presented for a tour of the United States by the Savage Touring Opera Company. It was a tryout before the official debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1910 and was sung in an English translation by Mrs. H.H. Elkins. When Puccini came to America to supervise the premiere, he made a number of changes, some major and some minor. However, I feel, there are moments in the original edition that are superior to the version we hear today.

Description

I started writing the adaptation using ordinary, clear English, but I was dissatisfied and decided to have all the characters use a vulgar, fractured English and at least for me, it works.
